"I work for an all-woman porn production company - we turn men into better lovers"

A former Catholic school student says she feels “empowered” working for an all-female porn production company - after never getting any sex education.

Cat Gately, 30, says she had to rely on her mum to “fill in the blanks” growing up, which inspired her to become a remote sex educator herself.

She taught for free on social media and Zoom before she saw a social media marketer vacancy for Ersties - a small, woman-led porn production company - and decided to go for it.

Cat says their films show “beautiful, magical sex” - they include chats about consent and boundaries, as well as “woman-dominated BDSM and anal”.

Cat, from Berlin, Germany, even claims they "turn men into better loves" and said: “I love working for an ethical, female-led porn company - it’s my mission in life to empower everybody.

“I watch and listen to the acts going on in the shoots and I just think - ‘these are things everybody could learn from'.

“In school, I just didn’t get anything. But I was curious about female pleasure, so I had to learn about it myself.”

Cat went to a Catholic school between 2004 and 2011.

Despite having a natural curiosity about sex and what happens - her sex education was “non-existent,” and she had to ask her mum for information instead.

Once she was taught about “condoms, penetration and pleasure” - she started feeding it back to her friends, who found it disgusting at first.

But eventually, she became the safe sex advocate for her friendship group, giving them advice for their first times having sex, as well as masturbating.

Cat said: “I got a lot from my mum - we can’t really rely on schools.

“I got my friends talking about masturbation and what it would be like to lose our virginities and what would happen if the guys don’t put the condom on correctly.

“My friends could be wild - I was definitely the sensible one!”

Cat began making sex education videos for Instagram and teaching masturbation classes for free on Zoom in March 2020.

She kept at it for a year and a half before spotting the vacancy for Ersties on Facebook.

Despite not having any experience in marketing, Cat applied - and her knowledge of sex made her the perfect match for the job.

She said: “At the end of 2021, I saw a job on Facebook for a marketer at Ersties. I wasn’t that knowledgeable about marketing, but I applied anyway.

“They’re not a huge company - and I had a lot of the right skillset for what they were looking for. I knew there would be lots of room to grow and develop.”

Cat quickly learnt the aim of Ersties was to create amateur porn with ‘natural’ bodies of all shapes and sizes.

The act in the video often centres around what the models want to do - then a vague script is drawn up.

Occasionally a crew member will tell a cast member where to face, and how to position themselves - but Cat says it’s mainly a “hands-off” approach.

She added: “If you’re exploring your sexuality, you want to feel as safe as possible.

“There’s something really beautiful in basing a shoot around what a model wants to do. There’s a script, some framework - we might ask a model to ‘please face this way’, but we try not to disturb the action if we can.

“You get a slightly different type of porn when you’ve got crew members saying things like ‘put this hand there,’ ‘suck that’ or whatever.”

Despite remaining ethical and woman-led, Cat says this hasn’t ruled out the “kinkier” side of things - with their fetish and BDSM content becoming their most-viewed.

She said: “There’s a misconception that BDSM and kinkier stuff can’t be done in this kind of environment.

“Our models are generally quite natural - girl-next-door types. But we still have our Fetish Month, anal shoots - it’s realistic for sex to be diverse.

“With so much male emphasis on BDSM, it’s exciting when we do a shoot when the woman expresses openly that she wants to be dominated.

“We’ve worked with a dominatrix who wanted to dominate two women - her style was very caring, it was a very different side to BDSM.”

Cat says they also include conversations about consent, likes and dislikes in each video - and this approach has even given the crew members an education.

She said: “We love hearing ‘no’ - we’re always reminding our performers to say it.

“If our models are happy - it creates better porn for us. It’s just business sense.

“Listening to the consent conversations is really empowering - you get to hear people staying in tune with their likes and dislikes - these are things we could all learn from.”
