Chips, Cheese and Gravy!

Reporter Tom Curphey spoke to owner of New Cod on the Block chippy, Johnny McDowell on chips cheese and gravy day.

00:07 It can get a lot romantic later on, especially at tea time.

00:10 Even when we have deliveries on as well, it just gets crazy, but everyone seems to enjoy it.

00:15 And have you noticed it become a big thing more recently?

00:17 Certainly have over the years, yeah. I mean, I've been in Cailin for a long time,

00:21 and over the years it's just gradually getting more and more popular.

00:24 And do you like it yourself?

00:26 It's very nice, it's quite enjoyable, yeah.

00:28 And tell me about, so it's all Manx, is it? The Manx cheddar?

00:30 All Manx potatoes are grown, of course they are, in the black way.

00:33 Obviously the Manx cheese, the only thing we use is the gravy, which obviously gets brought in by the Robsons.

00:38 And what would you say to people, I know we were just discussing about on social media,

00:42 people will say they don't like it or they do like it, people compare it to poutine in Canada.

00:45 Is it just a Manx dish, would you say?

00:48 I would say it's a Manx dish, because you go to the south of England and you never hear of these sort of things,

00:52 and stuff, and you go to England and they can't look at it, think it's disgusting.

00:56 Until you try it, you don't really know, do you?
