Absolute CHAOS in League One as Port Vale Fan Chases Referee Craig Hicks off the Pitch

A Port Vale fan chased referee Craig Hicks off the pitch after he awarded a late penalty to Portsmouth.

Portsmouth ended up winning the League One clash 1-0, with Colby Bishop scoring from the spot in the 88th minute.

One Port Vale supporter was especially livid at the penalty decision and ended up running onto the pitch.

As a result of the fan running onto the pitch, the referee took cover off the field before the game was eventually able to resume.

The pitch invader was held back by security staff and coaches.

The win was significant for Portsmouth, who are two points clear at the top of League One, albeit having played two games more than their closest challengers Bolton.

Port Vale, meanwhile, is just one place and three points above the relegation zone. They have played two games fewer than Reading, who are in 21st place.

The result saw Portsmouth return to winning ways following defeats to Cheltenham and Leyton Orient.

A statement from Port Vale on their X account read: 'Port Vale Football Club condemns the actions of the individual who entered the field of play during today's match against Portsmouth.

'We will work with the relevant authorities to ensure the matter and the individual is dealt with with a zero-tolerance approach.

'We remind all supporters that entering the field of play is a criminal offense.'
