This IVF Procedure Could Save Northern White Rhinos from Extinction
  • 3 months ago
The BioRescue consortium has achieved the first successful embryo transfer in white rhinos, offering a potential lifeline to the critically endangered northern white rhino subspecies. Researchers successfully induced pregnancy in surrogate mothers via embryo transfer in southern white rhinos, marking a significant step in rhino conservation despite the parents' death from an unrelated infection. Plans are underway to implant northern white rhino embryos, created from the sperm of deceased males and eggs from Fatu, one of the two surviving infertile females, into southern white rhino surrogates.
