00:00 Triple H not happy about a huge WWE leak, Cody Rhodes bumped from his WrestleMania match,
00:06 and my review of AEW Dynamite.
00:08 I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:14 It's not only the Royal Rumble this Sunday, I mean Saturday, it's also the beginning
00:23 of the road to WrestleMania.
00:25 The most exciting time of the year to be a wrestling fan, with WWE putting on the biggest
00:30 matches and storylines it can muster, while loads of conflicting reports come out about
00:34 what those matches will actually be.
00:36 It's speculationamania, brother.
00:38 Much love, HH Kiss.
00:40 Kicking off the festivities, Sports Illustrated have posted an article titled "WrestleMania
00:45 40 Card is taking shape and it looks spectacular."
00:49 In it, Sports Illustrated's longtime wrestling writer Justin Barrasso claims his WWE sources
00:55 have told him what's going to happen at the Royal Rumble, and how those events will
01:00 set up matches at WrestleMania.
01:02 Which include…
01:03 Bayley winning the Women's Royal Rumble Gunther winning the Men's Royal Rumble
01:08 The Rock will face Roman Reigns at Mania And Roman wins LOL
01:12 And Cody Rhodes… is not finishing his story.
01:19 Let's go through these one by one.
01:24 Sports Illustrated write that Bayley's "time is coming" and she's set for a
01:27 prime WrestleMania spot alongside Becky Lynch vs Rhea Ripley for the Raw Women's title,
01:32 likely against Io Sky for the SmackDown Women's title.
01:35 They write that while CM Punk vs Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship was
01:40 originally planned, a new plan is in place - that being Gunther, who will beat Rollins
01:45 for the title on the first night of WrestleMania after he wins this weekend's Rumble.
01:51 Not only that, it could potentially be a squash match to cover for Rollins' injury, and
01:55 is being done so Gunther can headline WWE's Bash in Berlin show in Germany as the World
02:02 Champion.
02:03 Which I think is actually incredibly smart booking around an injury.
02:06 Roman Reigns defending his title against The Rock at WrestleMania, and retaining, is to
02:11 still continue his reign and solidify him as the greatest champion in WWE history.
02:18 Again.
02:19 But where does that leave Cody?
02:21 Sports Illustrated write "Sources close to Triple H have indicated that Rhodes will
02:25 not headline this year's event, nor will he finish his story at WrestleMania."
02:31 Instead, they claim he'll face CM Punk following their great promo segment from the Rumble
02:36 Go Home episode of Raw.
02:38 So there we have it.
02:39 We now know the next three months of major WWE results.
02:44 Might as well come back in April.
02:47 But just one more thing.
02:50 Barrasso doesn't have the best track record when it comes to wrestling scoops.
02:55 And the far more reliable WrestleVotes has pushed back on his report, posting that while
02:59 the matches could absolutely happen, the set in stone nature of Barrasso's report is
03:05 a little naive.
03:06 And that a source also relayed that WWE is not happy with the report in general, especially
03:12 labelling it as "Sources close to Triple H" as if he'd be so open with this type
03:16 of specific information.
03:18 As for Cody himself, he's not flinching in an interview to Bleacher Report when he
03:23 was asked about being stuck between The Rock and a hard place.
03:27 I don't think he's the type that would come in a medal with a story that's been
03:30 told over the past two years.
03:33 This ties into a report from Fightful Select, who write that The Rock is a big fan of Cody
03:37 Rhodes and did not return to WWE to stand in the way of anything.
03:42 However, Fightful also add that was before The Rock's promo, and most didn't know
03:46 his head of the table line was coming.
03:48 Rock also mentioned in a recent interview that his new role on WWE's board of directors
03:53 means his personal feelings may have to give way to what's best for the publicly traded
03:58 company - which is money.
04:01 Here's a message from this video's sponsor.
04:08 "Well howdy partner, are you by any chance this 'New Pete' that everyone's been
04:25 a-hollering about?
04:26 How do I know your name son?
04:29 Why everyone's talking about you.
04:31 They're saying that you want to become the fastest man in the world."
04:35 "No, not really, I just wanted to go for some runs, get some new fitness, you know,
04:39 new year new Pete."
04:40 "No need to be modest Peter, I can make your dreams come true.
04:46 If you take AG1, you can be the fastest man in the world."
04:53 "AG1?"
04:54 "Yes, it's foundational nutrition, which can make you feel energised, have support
05:02 for your immune system, your healthy skin and your microbiome."
05:06 "Wow, that's incredible."
05:07 "I haven't finished son."
05:08 "It also improves your focus and mental clarity, as well as combating visible signs of ageing,
05:14 and replenishes your daily micronutrients, especially on workout days.
05:19 And I want to personally thank AG1 for sponsoring this video."
05:24 "This video?"
05:25 "What did I just tell you son?
05:27 And if you at home want to try AG1, then go to drinkag1.com/wrestletalk, which is in the
05:37 description below, to get a free one year supply of vitamin D3 and K2 and 5 free travel
05:46 packs with your first purchase."
05:48 "And it'll make me the fastest man in the world?"
05:52 "Well, no, but it'll make you feel so good, you'll feel like the fastest man in
05:59 the world.
06:00 Give it a try!"
06:09 We have Pete here to talk about his amazing experience.
06:12 Pete, what is your secret?
06:14 "Well, I mean, it's a lot of hard work, a lot of effort and AG1.
06:18 I mean, I really wouldn't have got the boost I needed without AG1.
06:22 And without it, I wouldn't have been able to live out my dreams.
06:25 Dreams.
06:26 Dreams.
06:27 Dreams."
06:28 "It's just a dream.
06:37 Go back to sleep."
06:38 As a shoot, I've actually been drinking AG1 first thing every morning for the last
06:46 4 years.
06:47 And it's really helped me stick to my goals of staying healthy, even when I'm busy or
06:51 really, really stressed.
06:52 It's an easy habit to maintain.
06:53 AG1 has Vitamin C and Zinc to support my immune system, which is one of my favourite benefits.
06:59 And I am also far superior at running than Pete.
07:02 Now it's Thursday, you know what that means.
07:05 My review of AEW Dynamite… in about 5 minutes.
07:10 Following my match of the year so far of Samoa Joe vs Hook - I'm sorry those 20 Will Ospreay
07:15 matches - the AEW Champion cut an in-ring promo reminding everyone how title shots aren't
07:20 given anymore, they're earned through cage match ratings.
07:24 It gave focus to the episode's World Championship picture, with top contenders Hangman Page,
07:29 Swerve Strickland and Wardlow all getting impressive wins.
07:33 Hook interrupted Joe to respectfully acknowledge defeat, before leaning into Joe's ear and
07:37 threatening to one day fight him again.
07:39 I'm very glad they featured Hook on this episode to follow up from last week, but for
07:44 me, every time he speaks, he loses a bit of that magic.
07:47 Instead, I'd have had him do what everyone else did in the World Title storyline - get
07:51 an impressive, decisive victory over a credible opponent.
07:55 Joe stayed out on commentary, which had its table moved to ringside by the crowd - presumably
07:59 to help increase attendance - to scout his World Championship competition, like the show's
08:04 opening contest between Hangman Page and Penta.
08:07 They had a predictably awesome match, again recapturing the AEW fire of old.
08:12 They went back and forth on everything - strikes, kicks, zero Miyada, cowboy shizzle taunts.
08:17 The great in-ring action was given another layer too by Joe on commentary, whose performance
08:21 steadily descended from arrogant to quite angrily concerned about how tough both men are.
08:27 Hangman hit a buckshot lariat to win and go 3-0 this year.
08:30 Stick that in your cage match and gender it.
08:32 Orange Cassidy told Renee backstage he'll be accepting Roderick Strong's international
08:36 title match for Revolution, but that's like six weeks away.
08:41 So in the meantime, he'll keep defending his belt.
08:43 That's how seriously wrestlers in kayfabe are taking the Undisputed Kingdom faction.
08:49 Cool, I guess I'll get to them when I get to them.
08:52 Before then, Cassidy's next challenge will be decided by a four way on Friday's Rampage,
08:57 which includes…
08:58 Dan Latom!
08:59 Don't tie yourself out too much, Danny boy, because you're facing me for the jam that
09:06 championship this Sunday, I mean Saturday, at WrestleTalk's Royal Rumble Watch Along
09:11 Party.

09:16 Cassidy was then in his best friend Trent's corner, furthering the faction's conflict
09:20 with the Undisputed Kingdom by taking on Wardlow.
09:22 While the Undisputed Kingdom have been pretty generic so far, I'm really enjoying this
09:26 version of Wardlow.
09:27 It's not just that he's back to being a heel monster, it's the black and white
09:31 attire, the group of guys around him, and how he carries himself as better than all
09:35 of them put together.
09:37 They worked a really good match, giving Trent some fiery offence, even cheating and using
09:41 a chair, while Wardlow never looked in serious trouble, winning with a sickening last ride.
09:46 It's so good, he just needs one powerbomb to win now.
09:49 And it's another smart heel trick, as it stops the crowd chanting 'one more time'
09:54 like they would've done for a babyface Wardlow.
09:56 Matthew and Nicholas Buxon continued their new heel characters backstage, arriving late
10:02 but still calling out top flight for their tardiness.
10:04 Deonna Purrazzo and Toni Storm's interview segment didn't just reveal a real personal
10:08 basis for their title feud, it was also an achievement in in-camera special effects.
10:14 Despite being conducted live on the top of the ramp, Toni's half of the screen was
10:18 in black and white, while Deonna's was in gloriously permatand colour.
10:22 All in the same shot.
10:24 Purrazzo said she doesn't want to face the delusional, timeless Toni Storm.
10:28 She wants the Toni she trained with in Japan, where they were so close, revealing a very
10:33 cool real-life detail, they got matching ankle tattoos.
10:36 Toni responded to the cognitive dissonance that she might not really be a Golden Age
10:41 Hollywood actress by telling Deonna to put her tattoo down her butthole.
10:45 They scuffled, and Purrazzo stood tall with the title.
10:48 Tye Valkyrie later called Deonna out between tonguing John Morrison's face off.
10:52 Moxley just casually cut promo of the week in a pre-tape backstage.
10:56 After toiling away for months in AEW's developmental system Rampage, the young upstart Jeff Hardy
11:01 was then called up to the main Dynamite roster, marking his first singles match on the show
11:06 since 2023's Match of the Year winner of him vs Jeff Jarrett in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre
11:12 deathmatch.
11:13 I'm only slightly joking there, I ironically love that match.
11:18 Jeff has been passively aggressively posting on social media that he's not being showcased
11:22 on Dynamite for a month now, so he wrestled like he had something to prove against Swerve.
11:27 They had a great match, with Swerve's unique offence kind of acting like a 2024 mirror
11:31 to how Jeff was in the Attitude Era days.
11:34 They worked a main event calibre style, with Jeff hitting a twist of fate on the steel
11:38 steps, but Swerve got the stomp to win.
11:41 Strickland then crashed Renee's interview with Hangman backstage, asking who the last
11:44 person to beat Paige was.
11:46 Answer, it was him.
11:48 For Hangman to scream back what everyone watching this channel should now have as their 2024
11:53 mantra.
11:54 New year, new me, dumbass.
11:56 Renee then revealed next week they'll both be in Dealers' Choice matches, where they
12:00 get to choose each other's opponents.
12:02 Swerve should pick Moxley, reprising that classic feud from last year, and I think this
12:06 would be a great spot for Hangman to choose Hook.
12:09 I'm seeing double here.
12:11 Four women's segments on an episode of Dynamite.
12:13 Thunder Rosa beat Red Velvet in a decent match, and then called out Tony Storm off mic afterwards.
12:18 But the camera does not care about your match building, Rosa.
12:21 We've got to see the Savannah Bananas at ringside.
12:24 With Serena Deeb set to return on Saturday's collision, this felt like the most fleshed
12:28 out women's division in ages.
12:30 It's Sting!
12:33 And he's in the ring!
12:38 With Darby Allin!
12:45 Yeah.
12:50 Darby noted that because the rankings are back, they're the number one contenders for the
12:53 tag team titles.
12:55 Sting agreed, and a match against Ricky Starks and Big Bill was made for two weeks' time.
12:59 Despite announcing Sting's retirement back in October, it feels like it's caught AEW
13:03 by surprise, and they're booking several months of storyline into one.
13:07 If Sting and Darby were already tag champs before Sting's final match was announced,
13:11 the Young Bucks walking out would've made way more storyline sense.
13:15 Speaking of, the best part of this whole segment was Nicholas and Matthew producing it backstage,
13:20 when Nicholas said - that's a terrible camera shot -
13:22 "It's official.
13:24 Now they've got the trios belts.
13:26 Bullet Club Gold have the best entrance in wrestling."
13:29 They didn't actually wrestle the match, though.
13:30 It was the acclaimed defending their AEW trios belts against the Mogul Embassy.
13:35 Instead, Jey White and The Gunn stopped Prince Narnia from cheating during Billy Gunn's
13:38 hot tag, helping their new 'super faction friends' retain.
13:42 I'm really into this storyline, and I can't wait for Jey White to reveal he was only ever
13:46 doing it to get to the AEW trios belts.
13:49 But Austin Gunn thought they were doing it for love.
13:52 The main event was a fever dream of a match.
13:55 Minoru Suzuki vs Adam 'Edge' Copeland.
14:00 It's the sort of visual that doesn't quite make sense in the brain.
14:04 Like Ishii vs Kane.
14:08 Or Triple H vs Hiroshi Tanahashi.
14:11 WWE New Japan Forbidden Door main event confirmed.
14:14 They had a very fun exhibition match, not at the level of Suzuki's great AEW cameos,
14:18 but an enjoyable spectacle nonetheless.
14:21 Unfortunately, the camera just missed what would've been the best spot - Suzuki sitting
14:25 up laughing after getting speared to lock in a choke on Copeland.
14:29 Copeland won in the end, sending Suzuki into an exposed turnbuckle, then hitting Christian's
14:33 Kill Switch to win.
14:34 We got what looked like some stock footage from 2023 of Christian reacting, as Copeland
14:39 promised he's still coming for him.
14:42 This was a fun, solid episode, but not much progressed.
14:45 This week's Dynamite is 80%.
14:47 Now go watch us count down the worst wrestling entrance themes, ever.
