While the hip-hop community celebrated the life of DMX over the weekend, Kanye West reportedly helped raise 1 million dollars for the late rap icon’s family.
Kanye’s Yeezy apparel brand partnered with fashion house Balenciaga to produce tribute shirts for DMX, which went on sale the day of DMX’s public memorial service in Brooklyn.
The shirts retailed for 2 hundred dollars and reportedly sold out in 24 hours. They raked in 1 million dollars in profit for the family of the American Music Award winner, who died on April 9th at 50 years old.
DMX’s Brooklyn memorial was streamed on YouTube and attended by hip-hop heavyweights Nas, Swizz Beatz, Fabolous, Eve and others.
DMX’s 15 children took the stage to honor their father, including one of his young daughters paying tribute with her own rap version of DMX’s song “Slippin’.”
