Eugowra still recovering from floods that left the Central West town in ruins 14 months ago

14 months after the floods that left much of Eugowra in ruins the Central West town is starting to get back on its feet. The premier has been visiting and met residents who are finally moving-out of temporary accommodation.

00:00 When floods ripped through Yougoura in November 2022, devastating the town, the local preschool

00:09 was one of the casualties.

00:11 It's still out of action, but the Premier was on hand today for the opening of a temporary

00:16 replacement.

00:20 Just having this area here for them to really run around and thrive, it's so important,

00:26 not just for the kids, but for the community as a whole.

00:28 I think there's over 70 kids that are booked in, which means in many cases it's mums can

00:34 get back to work as quickly as possible.

00:38 The centre was built with the help of the New South Wales Reconstruction Authority.

00:43 Many Yougoura residents are still living in pod accommodation.

00:47 Kay and Max Jones were among them, but have just moved in to their rebuilt home.

00:57 It was hard moving from the pod back over here because life at the pod had become the

01:02 new normal, but now we absolutely love it.

01:05 While life is returning to normal for some, others are still waiting.

01:10 They're being held back by issues surrounding insurance claims and a shortage of builders.

01:14 One of the hardest things is getting tradespeople.

01:17 Not that they don't want to, they're just inundated themselves with jobs to be done.

01:21 When Labor and funding allows, the hope is this temporary facility will be one of many
