Riot Games to Cut 11% of Global Staff Amidst Restructuring Efforts
  • 3 months ago
Riot Games, the developer behind League of Legends and Valorant, is cutting 11% of its global staff, or around 530 roles. The cuts come as the company, owned by Tencent, says it has become too unfocused after aggressively expanding in recent years. Riot will scale back teams for the Legends of Runeterra card game and shut down its Riot Forge publisher. Riot relied heavily on League of Legends but has struggled to diversify, leading to calls to branch out games-wise. The cuts coincide with China removing draft rules aimed at curbing gaming spending and boosting the stocks of Tencent and others.
