In 2035, aliens have wiped out mega cities around the globe to get their main source of energy, Xianteng. Will Shanghai be able to defend itself and maybe even launch a counterattack?
Set in the future, the city of Shanghai, China battles to defend itself against an ongoing attack by an alien force that has laid siege to numerous cities around the globe in its quest to harvest a hidden energy only found on earth.
Shanghai Fortress is a 2019 Chinese science fiction action film directed by Teng Huatao (滕华涛) and stars Lu Han (鹿晗) and Shu Qi (舒淇). Based on Jiang Nan (江南)'s eponymous 2009 sci-fi novel (also translated as Once Upon a Time in Shanghai), the film depicts the human race's last stand in Shanghai fighting against alien dark forces who try to seize a hidden energy source on earth in 2035. The movie was premiered in China on August 9, 2019. It was Godfrey Gao Yixiang (高以翔)'s final film before his death on November 27, 2019.
