Gates: China is 'self-sufficient' country benefiting world

00:10 China is a great example of a country that is now very self-sufficient

00:16 in helping other countries.

00:18 And the R&D budgets in China that develop new vaccines,

00:22 develop better seeds, better livestock genetics,

00:26 those things can help China and help the countries

00:31 that aren't as far along as China, including those in Africa.

00:35 Today, China is making inexpensive products that benefit the world.

00:40 The health statistics in China have improved very dramatically.

00:45 So there's a lot of win-win things, whether it's between Gates Foundation and China

00:51 or even China and other countries, including the U.S.,

00:56 working together on climate innovation, all of these different health challenges.

01:03 And so the more the relationship can be about the win-win,

01:07 I think the better off we all are.

01:09 And then there's still the remarkable development of Chinese technologies

01:15 and Chinese productions.

01:17 Look at the leadership that's taking place in wind and electric vehicles

01:25 and even the development of the chip race.

01:29 You know, that's an American-Chinese competition,

01:32 and it's really quite remarkable how effective that is.

01:36 I think if you look at how it's developed, isn't it amazing how that China

01:42 is competing at a world-class level with this type of innovation that's taking place?

01:48 So the power of the Chinese inventiveness is a force for the world

01:54 that when it interacts with the world represents competition

01:59 and represents, therefore, that intensity.
