Footage Shows Liverpool Star Alexander-Arnold Was in So Much Pain He Had to BITE His Shirt

Trent Alexander-Arnold was seen biting his shirt in agony, after suffering a knee injury during Liverpool's 2-0 victory, against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Despite it now being confirmed that he will be sidelined for a few weeks with knee ligament damage, the full-back bravely managed to play on and see out the remainder of the match.

Fans lauded his resilience online claiming, 'Trent played on in this state for 30 minutes,' after a video emerged showing him biting his shirt and grimacing in pain after sustaining the injury.

The 25-year-old had appeared to suffer the injury in a duel with Gabriel Martinelli in the 68th minute of the match.

Alexander-Arnold had attempted to usher the Arsenal forward to the byline, with the Liverpool defender running off the pitch, taking a few steps before pulling up in some discomfort.

He was seen limping back onto the field grimacing in pain before he bent over on his haunches, biting his shirt in discomfort.

Liverpool confirmed after the game that he had 'hyperextended his knee' while defending the passage of play.

Pepijn Lijnders said to Liverpoolfc.com: 'First of all, some not-that-good news, Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game.

'So he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover. He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let's see after that.

'He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was. This guy was decisive in all the games and was the one who created constantly for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility.

'We will miss him,' he added.

Other fans on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: 'Pretty mad to think Trent played half an hour with a tear in his knee. Looks nasty, to be honest.'

It will come as a huge blow for Liverpool, with Alexander-Arnold enjoying an excellent season so far.

During Sunday's clash against Arsenal, the 25-year-old delivered the cross that saw Jakub Kiwior clip the ball into the back of his net with his head.

Since Jurgen Klopp has deployed him in a more advanced role Alexander-Arnold has excelled in the position, with Martin Keown likening him to Steven Gerrard claiming he was 'like a quarterback' for the side.

The full-back has been pivotal in the Reds' title challenge this season, scoring twice while returning nine assists in all competitions, with Liverpool currently top of the Premier League table.

But his absence will be a worry for Jurgen Klopp's side, who are already very short defensively, with Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas, Joel Matip all out with injuries.

Despite that, Lijnders gave some good news on Virgil van Dijk who had missed the Arsenal clash through 'illness'.

He said: 'Virgil is back. He did some runs yesterday on the pitch and looked good again. So he will be back in the squad, he recovered well. So it helped him not to travel to London.'
