The European Commission has launched a probe into the markets for virtual worlds and generative AI technologies. As part of this, the Commission is examining agreements between large tech firms and generative AI developers, including Microsoft's investment in OpenAI. Microsoft has invested billions in OpenAI, including integrating some of its technologies, in a partnership some see as giving Microsoft influence. OpenAI remains independent but Microsoft has an observer on its board, fueling worries over control.
