Who Is Krampus, the Original Bad Santa?

Krampus is a mythical creature rooted in European folklore, often portrayed as a horned, demonic figure. In contrast to the benevolent St. Nicholas, Krampus is the yin to Santa's yang, punishing naughty children during the Christmas season. Legend has it that he carries chains and a bundle of birch branches to swat misbehaving kids. Some cultures celebrate Krampusnacht, a night dedicated to this horned anti-Santa, complete with parades and festivities. While he may not bring gifts, Krampus adds a dark and quirky twist to the holiday season in certain traditions.
