Junior doctors on Merseyside have walked out over the ongoing dispute over pay and conditions. The strike - the longest in NHS history - began at 7 am on Wednesday and will last until 7 am on Tuesday, January 9.

469 arrests were made for drug driving in Merseyside across the festive period. Operation Limit, which ran from 20 November to 1 January, also saw 191 people arrested for drink driving. Overall, 123 more arrests were made than in the previous year.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service's Chief Fire Officer has been recognised in this year's New Year Honours List for 2024. Phil Garrigan has been given the King's Fire Service Medal. Phil joined the service in 1990 and took on the role of chief fire officer in 2017.
