Residents near PNG gold mine demand share of profits from its reopening
  • 4 months ago
One of Papua New Guinea's largest gold mines is reopening after years of political and legal stand-offs. The Porgera mine was shut down in 2020 in a play by the PNG government to take a majority share of its earnings. As it reopens, nearby landholders say the government needs to spend some of the profits to help resettle them or improve basic services.
