00:00 "How in the hell did you pull Simone Biles?"
00:04 "Really, how she pull me, man?
00:07 That's the question."
00:08 "Oh, Lord."
00:09 Simone Biles' husband, Jonathan Owen, says he's the catch in their relationship, and
00:14 admits when they first started dating, he had never heard of the four-time Olympic gold
00:19 medalist.
00:20 "It's something you don't want to miss."
00:21 The newlyweds, who tied the knot back in April, recently sat down for a chat on The Pivot
00:26 podcast and reflected on how they first met after Simone popped up on a dating app back
00:32 in 2020.
00:33 "Let me see what this is.
00:34 Gymnastics.
00:35 I ain't never, you know, I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity,
00:40 you know?"
00:41 While it seems unlikely, or even impossible, that the Green Bay Packers' safety had never
00:45 heard of Simone, he tried his best to explain how the Olympic hero managed to fly under
00:51 his radar.
00:52 "When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn't have NBC, we didn't have Olympic
00:58 channels, and we're in camp.
00:59 We're in camp.
01:00 Late, late, late July, early August, so I'm not paying attention to, you know, so I never
01:04 would have had a moment to where I would have watched, like."
01:07 And the pro football player shared how he felt after she first messaged him.
01:11 "I didn't know who she was at the time, but, like, the first thing that I saw was that
01:14 she just had a bunch of followers, so in my mind, I'm like, 'Okay, she gotta be good.'"
01:18 Once they connected, Jonathan says things took off fast, Simone driving 45 minutes to
01:23 visit him in Houston, and the rest is history.
01:26 "I guess sharing it is just a part of my story."
01:30 "So you was really the catch in…"
01:32 "I always say we the men the catch, man.
01:34 I always say we the catch, man."
01:36 "Yeah, so she really booked you."
01:38 "She did, though."
01:39 "Is what you said.
01:40 I was fighting it."
01:41 "I was afraid to commit, but, you know, like I said, man, it happens when you least expect
01:45 it."
01:46 It wasn't until they started stepping out together that Jonathan realized just how famous
01:50 and beloved his leading lady is.
01:53 "There was all these moms, and, you know, they're there with their kids, and we walk
01:56 past and everybody stopped and just, kids are like shaking, and it's like, 'Oh my God!'
02:02 And I'm like…"
02:03 "To me, I'm just Simone, so I'm like, 'How do these people even know who I am?'
02:06 But it's also cool that they recognize the talent that Team USA brought."
02:12 Jonathan popped the question on Valentine's Day 2022, and the couple said "I do" in
02:17 April in a private city hall ceremony in Texas.
02:20 "I'm sorry, I can't.
02:22 You guys can make me blush."
02:23 They later tied the knot for a second time in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in May, in front
02:28 of 144 guests, including their wedding party of eight bridesmaids and seven groomsmen.
02:35 And in the months since, Simone has frequently been spotted giving her man a supportive kiss
02:40 before his games.
02:41 "Oh, love it.
02:43 Let's do that."
02:44 After the podcast went live, Jonathan faced some backlash over his "the catch" comment.
02:49 "So you was really the catch in…"
02:51 "I always say we the man the catch, man.
02:54 I always say we the catch, man."
02:55 "Yeah, so she really booked you."
02:57 "She did though."
02:58 But he's seemingly sticking by it, subtly addressing the criticism with an IG post,
03:03 "Unbothered.
03:05 Just know we locked in over here."
03:07 And Simone, she slid into the comments to show her support, writing simply, "For life."
03:12 "For life."
03:13 "For life."
