Danny Welbeck had an early chance on goal in Brighton's Premier League clash with Tottenham on Thursday but was denied by Italian keeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham fans were quick to notice the Italian's shot-stopping abilities, brandishing him as the 'best goalkeeper in the league'.

Welbeck himself looked shocked at the save, with fans enjoying his facial expression of complete shock at the marvelous stop.

'Vicario is unbelievable. Every week he’s making saves I don’t know how he makes it. What a goalkeeper man we hit the jackpot big time.' Another Spurs fan added.

'Vicario is the best in the league, you can’t tell me otherwise.' One wrote.

'To think that Guglielmo Vicario cost a third of what Andre Onana did is quite incredible.' Another user wrote, comparing the Italian with Manchester United's Andre Onana - who has divided fans.

Vicario moved to Tottenham from Serie A side Empoli for £17m in the summer, having made a stunning start in England's top flight.

Serie A clubs passed up the chance to sign him, though he remains a third choice for Italy's national team.

Vicario made a spectacular save, leaving the match goalless, though he conceded Brighton's opening goal from young star Jack Hinshelwood just moments later.

Brazilian youngster Joao Pedro doubled their lead from the spot with a penalty after Dejan Kulusevski fouled Welbeck in the box.

Tottenham look to boost their title race hopes with a win on the South Coast on Thursday.
