Muhammad Ali vs Richard Dunn - boxing - undisputed world heavyweight title
  • 4 months ago
Muhammad Ali defended his undisputed world heavyweight title against Richard Dunn

Date: May 24, 1976

Venue: Olympiahalle, Munich

Ali stance: orthodox

Dunn stance: southpaw

Muhammad Ali was never the same after his brutal trilogy fight with Joe Frazier. Ali emerged victorious when Frazier's corner wouldn't let him out for the final round, but the winner had suffered almost as much damage as the loser. Ali's next defence of his titles was against Jean-Pierre Coopman, who Ali stopped in five. A couple of months later, Ali was taken the distance by the talented Jimmy Young.

Richard Dunn turned pro in 1969, and most of his career was blighted by the fact that boxing was a part time job for him and he couldn't afford training camps or sparring partners. After a bad run of defeats in 1974, including an eighth round stoppage loss to Jimmy Young, Dunn went on a run of seven wins, picking up the British, Commonwealth and European titles.
