Lee-on-the-Solent Boxing Day Dip

Solent Sea Swimmers held their annual Boxing Day dip in the Solent in Lee-on-the-Solent on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

00:00 Hi, my name's Indra, I'm a self-empowered run solo student school.

00:05 I'm here today as it's Boxing Day, raising money for Harbour Cancer Support Centre.

00:10 I'd like to say a big, big thank you to everybody who's turned up today

00:14 and the lots of money that you've been raising.

00:16 We've even passed the fives, we've been money in the bucket.

00:19 Harbour Cancer is a very important charity in Gosport.

00:22 They've got a little office in Stoke Road and in there they help not only those who are suffering from cancer

00:28 but also their families. There's helping support down there, little groups, missing groups, reading groups.

00:35 Basically, it's open as long as you need it. Just go down there and have a word with them and they are really, really helpful.

00:43 And is it a different charity each year?

00:45 It was to begin with but we decided to stay with Harbour Cancer because we think they're a well-deserved charity.

00:53 What's the reaction been like today?

00:56 Oh, it's been amazing. It's just such good fun.

00:59 Lots of people have volunteered to help, you know, with the spotting, in the water, supporting us.

01:05 Yeah, it's been absolutely amazing. We can't thank you enough.

01:16 I've yet to go in but I'll be smiling in a minute.

01:20 It's being in the open air, next to nature and it's just, it's wonderful to feel mental health and social.
