The true history of the United States
The history of the United States predates the arrival of Native Americans in North America around 30,000 B.C. Many indigenous cultures were formed, many of which disappeared in the 16th century. With the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492, European colonization of the Americas began. Most colonies were formed after 1600, and the United States was the first country to fully record their origins. By the 18th century, the thirteen British colonies contained 2.5 million people along the Atlantic coast east of the Appalachian Mountains. After France's defeat, the British government imposed a series of taxes, including the Stamp Act of 1765, rejecting the colonists' constitutional argument that new taxes needed their approval. Resistance to these taxes, especially the Boston Party of 1773, led Parliament to pass laws intended to end self-government. Armed conflict in Massachusetts began in 1775.
