Deputy Caught Acting Suspicious, Lies About It - December 23, 2023

On the night of December 23rd, 2023, a concerned resident called Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office dispatch to report two people in an SUV stopping in front of her home, shining a flashlight, messing around in front of her mailbox, and generally acting suspicious. The caller advised that one of the people appeared to be wearing a law enforcement uniform. A particular deputy was taking an unidentified rider back to his house in the same area, so Dispatch radioed and asked if it was him. He denied it, of course, and tried to shift the blame to another deputy who lived in the area. The problem with that is, the other deputy drives a Taurus, and also was not working tonight. Of note, this deputy was talking from his portable/handheld radio (verifiable by LWIN radio system logs) up until he stated that he was enroute, meaning he was out of his vehicle and on-foot. The deputy drove back down the road in question and was "unable to locate" the suspect vehicle. Gee, I wonder why...

This deputy does have a history of denying, trying to pass the blame for, and lying about his misconduct. For example, in February 2022 he was speeding (and probably texting as well) on another residential street in the same general area, and ran another motorist off the road. He was driving so fast the caller couldn't get a unit number. When dispatch asked who was on that road, he stayed silent (hoping another deputy would take the fall), before finally saying he had driven down that road a few minutes prior. He was made to go back and help the motorist fix part of her car that was damaged when he ran her off the road.

Based on circumstantial evidence, I believe this to be yet another example of this deputy lying about his actions.

Update - April 8, 2024: A few days ago a 911 call was received regarding prowlers shining flashlights into a woman's house. Very conveniently, this same deputy had been parked nearby with his headlights off, with a clear view of her house, for some time before the call was received. The complainant advised his supervisor (who had to respond because he, very suspiciously, couldn't be bothered to drive a few hundred feet and make contact with her) that the prowlers walked up the very road that the deputy was parked on. He stated he did not see anybody walk past him or see any flashlights. Gee, I wonder why...

Update 2- May 1, 2024: on April 30th, a vehicle belonging to this deputy was reported parked in a woman's driveway and the driver was reported to have been illegally fishing in her private pond - as well as trespassing. No action was taken once it was determined to have been this deputy or his son.
