Daniel Bejarano's Fatal Crash @ La Cantera 2014 (Aftermath)

A racing car and motorcycle meeting held at the Autódromo La Cantera in Chihuahua, Mexico, on Sunday, 11 May 2014, was overshadowed by a bizarre accident that resulted in the death of a not competing driver, mechanic Daniel Bejarano of the Escudería Romero.

Before the start of the proceedings, Daniel Bejarano was working in the paddock, unloading a racing car from a stationary team's truck which had been used to transport it to the track. The car was a red single-seater which was to be driven in the event by Bejarano's nephew. Once the car was on the ground, the truck's platform was raised but not entirely.

Minutes later, Bejarano started the engine and took the wheel of the car to move it to the pits, without wearing an helmet and with his seat belt not fastened. For unknown reason, Daniel Bejarano lost control of the car that started quickly, and hit the open tailgate of the truck.

The emergency crews and paramedics on duty at the track came to the scene, but the man was killed instantly. Daniel Bejarano, 40, was reported to be from Juan Aldama, in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. His age was indicated by different accounts as 30 or 35.

Owing to the accident the event was abandoned. The Autódromo La Cantera was closed for a while by the Gobernación Municipal de Chihuahua.
