Jorge Armando Limas Vital's Fatal Crash @ Baja 500 2013

A spectator died and another two were injured after competitor Kevin Price of San Francisco, California, rolled and tumbled into the crowd on a bend, hitting them with his modified all terrain car, during the 45th edition of the Annual SCORE Baja 500, held nearly the town of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. The accident occurred about 11h45 on Saturday, 01 June 2013. The event was round 2 of the 2013 SCORE Desert Series.

The car was entered in Class 1/2 1600 with the race number 1610. While travelling towards south in the small village of Matiz, located at the bottom of Colonia Rosas Magallón, east of Ensenada, Kevin Price who was the first to start in his category, lost control of his Sandmaster-Volkswagen and struck the spectators head on, running over three of them. The person he hit in front died almost immediately. He was identified as Jorge Armando Limas Vital, 39-year-old.

A 10-year-old boy named Marco Antonio Aldaco sustained a fractured arm and was taken urgently to Velmar hospital. Another spectator involved in the accident, a 16-year-old girl named Andrea Álvarez García and the driver Kevin Price, 44, suffered minor injuries which did not require hospitalization.

Reportedly, the crowd pressed to the side of the track on the outside of the bend. Policemen vainly tried to pull the spectators back from the danger zone. After the accident, the driver was arrested and eventually released after posting a bond with Mexican authorities. His VW-powered vehicle was manufactured by the Sandmaster company, founded by Scott McKenzie in North Hollywood, California, in 1966.
