FDA Investigates Potential Intentional Contamination in Recalled Applesauce Products
  • 4 months ago
The FDA is exploring the possibility that recalled applesauce products contaminated with high levels of lead may have been intentionally contaminated. WanaBana, Schnucks, and Weis-brand apple cinnamon pouches manufactured by Austrofood in Ecuador were recalled in November for elevated lead levels, as lead poisoning cases increased across the US. The FDA has received 65 reports of adverse events in children under 6 related to recalled products, while the CDC has received over 200 reports from state health departments.
