Despite promises of more transparency,
Congress has acted to control the flow of
information that is made public regarding UFOs.
On December 14, Congress stripped measures
regarding UFO records from a massive defense
policy bill signed into law with bipartisan support.
Those measures would have created a presidential
commission to review records of UFO incidents.
It also would have ordered the
Department of Defense to declassify , "records relating to publicly known sightings
of unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP).".
'The Guardian' reports that provisions were included in the
bill that ordered the National Archives to collect reports of , "UAPs, technologies of unknown
origin and nonhuman intelligence.".
However, the provisions also grant various government
departments the authority to keep those records secret.
It means that declassification
of UAP records will be largely
up to the same entities that
have blocked and obfuscated
their disclosure for decades, Chuck Schumer, Democratic Senate leader, via 'The Guardian'.
The legislation comes following whistleblower
claims that the government knows
more about UFOs than it is willing to admit.
Those claims also accuse the government of
withholding evidence of "non-human beings"
gathered through decades of top-secret programs
