00:02 My name is Alessandra Lacorassa,
00:06 and I'm the writer/director of "In the Summers."
00:08 Our film is playing as part of the US Dramatic Competition
00:11 at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
00:13 I made this film as a way to understand my father
00:17 and our fractured relationship,
00:19 and to see a different kind of queer and Latin representation.
00:23 My inspiration was my beautiful,
00:25 but often chaotic childhood.
00:27 The beauty, the joys, the pain
00:30 of being a child of an addict.
00:32 And the importance of having my sister
00:36 as an ally and a witness.
00:38 Like most family stories, "In the Summers" is about love.
00:44 A complicated love.
00:47 It follows Violeta and Eva
00:50 as they visit their father, Vicente, during summer vacation.
00:56 Through the years, they experience his beauty and fun
00:58 on a rollercoaster of adventures.
01:00 But as time progresses, his pain, addiction,
01:03 and mental health issues peek through the surface,
01:07 leaving them with deep wounds.
01:08 Thank you to the Sundance Film Festival for having us.
01:12 I'm very excited to share this film with the world.
