AAA predicts 115.2 million Americans will travel for the year-end holiday period from December 23 to January 1. This is a 2.2% increase from last year and the second-highest number since 2000. Only 2019 saw more travel during this period with 119 million travelers. Air travel is set to reach a new high with an anticipated 7.5 million flyers, while bus, train, and cruise travel are also expecting a surge with over 4 million travelers. Car travel retains its spot as the preferred mode of transportation, with about 104 million people projected to drive during the holiday period. Transportation Security expects to see increased traveler numbers matching what was seen around Thanksgiving, anticipating a further rise for the Christmas and New Year period.
