Fearless Cat Takes Massive Leap Off Utility Pole to Escape Would-Be Rescuer, Wild Video Shows

This fearless feline has at least eight more lives left.

A cat that had gotten stuck at the top of a utility pole took a massive leap to avoid his would-be rescuer, viral video shows.

Coco, a 3-year-old tabby cat, had escaped from his home in Dildo, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, on Monday and scurried up a hydro pole, where he stayed for two hours, meowing until help from the utility company finally arrived, owner Alice Reid told CTV.

Coco is not an outdoor cat, and Reid believes a dog may have chased him up there as he’s never climbed up a pole before, she said.

Video Reid posted to Facebook shows a utility worker in a hard hat and uniform scaling the pole toward the crying orange cat.

“Coco, he’s going to help you, my love,” Reid can be heard telling the cat as the worker gets closer.

But despite coaxing from his owner and the utility worker, the cat could not be purr-persuaded to accept the help.

Instead, he chose to dramatically jump to the ground at the last second.

“Oh my god!” someone is heard screaming in the video, which has been viewed more than 215,000 times.

“I never, in a million years, thought that he was going to jump on his own,” Reid told CTV.

Coco took off running after he landed, and Reid initially thought he was injured.

Like a cat, though, he appeared unbothered after the fuss.

“He came up the step and went on in,” Reid said. “Then he lay down on the floor and started washing himself like, you know, nothing ever happened.”
