00:11 Russia's assault on the front line eastern city of Vardivka intensifies, leaving few

00:20 After the truce ended, Hezbollah in southern Lebanon shelled Israeli army posts on the

00:24 border and Israel hit back with missile strikes.

00:27 Meanwhile, more Israeli tanks moved into Gaza.

00:30 On the diplomatic front, the U.S. Secretary of State described what he'd been trying to

00:34 achieve before the truce broke down.

00:37 I was focused on a few things.

00:42 Trying to see what we can do to keep getting hostages out of Gaza and out of the hands

00:48 of Hamas.

00:50 Looking at how we can both sustain and increase the humanitarian assistance that's getting

00:55 to people in Gaza and also talking about the way forward and Israel's efforts to make sure

01:03 that Hamas never again has the ability to do what it did on October 7th.

01:07 And at the Gaza side of the Rafah crossing point with Egypt, there were more Israeli

01:11 strikes.

01:12 By Friday evening, Gaza's health ministry said 178 people had been killed and dozens

01:18 wounded.

01:20 Israel says 77 of its soldiers have so far been killed in its ground offensive in northern

01:24 Gaza.

01:26 And it claims to have killed thousands of Hamas fighters, but so far hasn't provided

01:30 any evidence of it.

01:36 Russia's assault on the front-line city of Avdivka in the east has intensified and officials

01:41 say the remaining 1,300 residents there are enduring apocalyptic conditions.

01:46 People are living mostly underground as few buildings are intact.

01:50 A specialized police unit known as the White Angels provides some supplies to those who

01:55 have stayed.

01:56 Nearby, in the eastern town of Kupyansk, almost 300 children and their parents have been evacuated.

02:03 It was the largest evacuation in the Harkiv region since the war began.

02:19 On the first day of the evacuation, the Russians attacked their route out of the city.

02:23 Meanwhile, President Putin ordered nearly 170,000 more troops to be added to the army,

02:29 taking the number of military personnel in Russia to 2.2 million.

02:38 These scenes in Dublin last week after the stabbing of three young children and an adult

02:42 female shocked right-thinking people in Ireland.

02:46 The angry protests revealed that far-right thinking is taking hold in Ireland.

02:51 The far-right is a very small movement in Ireland.

02:55 However, they are feeding into concerns about the immigration system in Ireland, the impact

03:01 that large numbers of migrants are having on Irish society, which is putting stresses

03:06 on the housing sector, sort of capitalizing on this issue.

03:11 The central issue in this upsurge in discontent towards the Irish state is immigration.

03:16 The population of Ireland has risen from 3.9 million in 2002 to just over 5 million currently.

03:24 One in five Irish residents since 1998 were foreign-born, and with 13,000 now declared

03:29 homeless, many are saying enough is enough.

03:33 The Irish Freedom Party has no elected representatives, but its leader says a change in immigration

03:39 policy in Ireland is long overdue.

03:42 I believe the government's system of reckless open borders, allowing a large number of unvetted

03:51 males of unknown origin into the country, has led to an increase, as it has in other

03:56 countries, be it Sweden, France and Germany, an increase in violence and sexual assault.

04:02 With almost full employment and a thriving economy in Ireland, rising rents in Dublin

04:06 are making it difficult for many to afford a house.

04:10 However, the employer's body, IBEX, says immigrants are needed, otherwise certain sectors

04:15 of the economy will collapse.

04:17 We don't think society or the economy could keep going without the immigrant population.

04:22 It's not a homogenous group.

04:24 We see a lot of immigrants from Europe who predominantly come to work.

04:27 The rioting seen here in Dublin last week has turned out to be a major wake-up call

04:31 for the Irish government.

04:33 The Irish police are to change tactics, the Irish public are angry that the far right

04:38 appears to have taken hold.

04:40 If the Irish government doesn't adequately address the issues around mass immigration,

04:44 what happened here on this very street last week could happen again in the not-too-distant

04:49 future.
