NEWS: DNB finalises share deal with five telcos

Five local mobile network operators have finally executed their share subscription agreements to take up equity stakes in Digital National Bhd.

00:03 As we all know, DNB was established in 2020-2021.

00:08 One of the things that was planned from the start

00:13 was the equity participation by telecommunications companies.

00:17 Alhamdulillah, the next step is to help Digital National Berhad

00:25 complete the 5G network implementation process to 80%.

00:31 And I have mentioned before that

00:36 until the end of October, 31st October,

00:39 we have reached 73% of the total.

00:43 That means we only need to remain at 7% until we reach 80%.

00:49 This figure is important because after we reach 80%,

00:52 the government will announce that a new entity can be established.

00:59 And the entity that we will witness at that time is

01:06 a number of MNOs will remain with DNB as Entity A,

01:12 while a number of other MNOs will start operating

01:17 and building the second 5G network under Entity B.

01:22 This process will take some time and there is a process.

01:29 But the important thing for Malaysians who use 5G services at this time

01:35 is that we have ensured that the service will not be disrupted

01:41 during the process, either by completing 80% of the quota

01:45 or when Entity B is established and the second network is built.

01:51 And the second thing that has been agreed upon by all CEOs and MNOs is

01:57 that the charge for 5G will not increase with the existence of the second network.

02:06 And it is a no-worse-off condition.

02:10 That means the price for 5G will not increase.

02:15 Entity B or Entity B will be established after we reach 80% of the quota.

02:21 And at that time, MNOs will make their own considerations,

02:28 discuss and reach a decision on which MNO is ready to go to Entity B.

02:38 But at the same time, MCMC will act as the control party

02:45 to ensure that both Entity B and Entity B will be competitive.

02:52 The benefit will ultimately be for the people.

02:56 That is what we want with the implementation of the basic alternative to the network.
