00:00 It's almost Christmas!
00:02 Do you have gift ideas for your loved ones?
00:06 Why not include in your list of choice
00:09 the handicrafts made by some persons deprived of liberty?
00:14 Aside from being beautiful,
00:15 you also helped our fellow Filipinos to start a new life.
00:20 Here's Louisa Erispe with the news center.
00:25 Every Christmas, Filipinos have a culture of giving gifts.
00:31 But what is the best gift?
00:35 What else but the gift of a heart.
00:39 That's what the persons deprived of liberty brought to us.
00:43 These are their colorful and durable products
00:47 that they made themselves.
00:49 From bags,
00:50 house decors,
00:52 balloons,
00:53 and even paintings.
00:54 You can only buy them at a low price.
00:57 Aside from buying a beautiful gift,
00:59 you also made the PDLs happy and gave them hope.
01:04 This is the quality of the products of our PDLs
01:08 in their livelihood.
01:10 We show that
01:12 our skills training in our jails
01:17 is what we really do.
01:20 You can buy these products
01:22 at the trade fair of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology,
01:25 NCR, in Quezon City,
01:27 or at other city jails in Metro Manila.
01:31 According to BJMP,
01:33 aside from buying PDLs every Christmas,
01:36 the trade fair also goes through
01:38 to show that they still have a chance to change
01:41 and have a livelihood
01:43 after being released from prison.
01:45 When you're released,
01:47 it's hard to find a job,
01:49 to apply for a job,
01:50 because the employees are looking for a job
01:54 in the background.
01:55 If they see a job in the background,
01:57 it's because they were a PDL before,
01:58 they don't apply for it anymore.
01:59 So, this is what we do,
02:03 an intervention,
02:05 so that when they're released,
02:06 they'll have their own livelihood.
02:08 It's common for Filipinos
02:10 to give gifts and be with their families
02:13 every Christmas.
02:14 But I hope everyone remembers
02:17 that the true symbol of Christmas
02:19 is love and compassion to one another,
02:22 even to those behind bars.
02:25 Luisa Erispe, for the people.
