00:25 the perfect place for Bywater.

00:27 So we took this place that was once 800 feet underwater,

00:30 and we are building another amazing set, which

00:33 is that Bywater trading post.

01:06 Part of the journey of this story for Bass

01:09 is the erosion to his family.

01:12 He's on the road a lot.

01:14 And so he, at this point, is almost

01:17 becoming more comfortable being out of the house

01:20 and on the road because it's harder to leave.

01:22 You knew all last night and didn't breathe a word.

01:27 I think it's the not knowing that really hurts

01:30 Jenny because they all signed up for their father being

01:33 a part of this bigger picture in terms of his career.

01:36 But at the same time, I think in that moment,

01:38 it's clear that he has an obligation

01:40 to make the moments that he does share with his family worth it.

01:43 I have a duty.

01:44 Sworn oath.

01:45 Like the one you swore to me when we married.

01:47 It's harder to relate to his family because of the things

01:50 he's experiencing.

01:51 And so the notion of family becomes

01:53 something a bit more distant.

01:55 We are trying to explore the morphing of his identity

01:59 as someone who is fighting for justice, loves his family,

02:02 and is dealing in such murky waters.

02:08 very relatable to the audience.

02:11 All these things in the world we never known about.

02:14 I find something so special about Demi's performances.

02:18 Demi's been a little piece of special sauce

02:20 that I just couldn't see coming.

02:22 Sally Reeves, you about the strangest girl I ever met.

02:25 And that's why you're sweet on me.

02:29 The most rewarding part is knowing

02:31 that I'm sharing a story that most people

02:34 are probably unfamiliar with.

02:39 with the parts that I play.

02:51 When Sally and Arthur are walking home

02:54 after the incident with Clementine,

02:56 they run into Clementine's older brothers.

03:08 Her father is Deputy Marshall, so she

03:11 knows that no matter what, there's

03:12 always someone in her corner.

03:14 Whereas Arthur, he's kind of alone

03:16 and doesn't have the same level of protection

03:18 that she does.

03:18 They get into a physical fight that

03:31 becomes an issue within itself.

03:33 We're in it now.

03:35 In it bad.

03:36 We fine.

03:40 The story takes place in a time where

03:41 there was a lot of uncertainty.

03:43 So I think that this story will show just how

03:46 strong the Reeves family was.

03:50 You must kill folks.

03:52 Ain't none of them had it coming.

03:54 And for me to decide.

03:57 Well, that's our problem.

04:00 We always have somebody else to side for us.

04:05 Jack Rabbit, whose crime goes to be revealed

04:09 as him murdering someone who was incredibly murderous,

04:13 embodies one of the really tough and difficult lines

04:17 someone like Bass Reeves has to walk.

04:20 We thought he was burning his cane field.

04:24 But he was burning his slaves.

04:27 This is why Jack Rabbit takes the law into his own hands.

04:30 I think Bass can totally relate to that being a form of justice.

04:35 He knows what enslavement is and the inherent injustice

04:41 and brutality of that.

04:43 On the other side of the aisle, he now

04:46 finds himself as a lawman, an enforcer

04:49 of some sort within society.

04:52 Kind of hard to carry to take a man's life and sleep.

04:54 Peaceful one.

04:58 Jack Rabbit is there to challenge Bass's sense of justice

05:03 versus the law, to demonstrate what Bass's life would

05:06 have been like if he had turned left instead of right.

05:09 We view them as very similar personalities,

05:12 two black men who both fought in the Civil War.

05:15 They could have been friends.

05:16 They could have been brothers, should things

05:18 have played out differently.

05:20 Jack Rabbit committed a crime that was

05:29 wrong in the eyes of the law.

05:30 But Bass internally is wondering if he

05:33 wouldn't have done the same thing

05:34 if he was in Jack Rabbit's shoes.

05:35 It's a tipping point, actually, for Bass

05:37 in relation to him becoming disenchanted with this job

05:41 that he has up until this point valued.

05:43 He's now beginning to question its validity.

05:47 Saddle up.

05:51 I am most excited for fans to see

05:53 the really cool action scenes that are throughout the series.
