DUI Arrest - February 18, 2023

On the evening of February 18th, 2023, sheriff's deputies in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana were dispatched to a possibly intoxicated driver whose vehicle was stuck in a ditch. Before deputies arrived, the driver got out and started walking down the road.
Deputies located the driver and noticed that he had slurred speech, and also observed an open container in the vehicle. Deputies placed him under arrest and transported him to the jail.
From what we can tell by the radio traffic, deputies handled the call well. They don't appear to have unnecessarily escalated the situation or did anything contrary to the law or proper procedures. They did attempt to call for a K9 handler (I'm guessing the driver denied consent to search), but he wasn't on shift yet.
