00:00 The holidays are upon us, and that means lots of holiday gatherings among family and friends.
00:04 So what can you do to make yourself a gracious guest in their home?
00:08 HuffPost says that rule number one may be to not try too hard.
00:11 Offer to help, but don't be so insistent that you end up underfoot.
00:15 HuffPost quotes event planner Awana Borkeman as saying a true host wants their guests to enjoy themselves and not be working,
00:21 so the insistence might make your host uncomfortable.
00:24 Nonetheless, there are some specific things you can do to make yourself useful.
00:27 For example, if you're visiting for a big meal, Rose Mora-Lowry of the New York Times recommends bringing your own containers for leftovers.
00:34 Don't demand food to take home, of course, but lots of hosts will be happy to clear some space in their fridge.
00:39 And Annalisa Barbieri of The Guardian says that hosts make the best guests.
00:43 So consider getting perspective from the other side of the serving tray by hosting a get-together of your own.
