00:00 India expressed surprise and concern after learning about its alleged involvement in
00:06 a plot to kill Khalistani leader Gurpatwan Singh Pannan.
00:11 White House spokesperson Adrienne Watson said that India stated activity of this nature
00:15 was not its policy.
00:17 Watson said, "We understand the Indian government is further investigating this issue and will
00:23 have more to say about it in the coming days.
00:25 We have conveyed our expectation that anyone deemed responsible should be held accountable."
00:31 The White House spokesperson further said that the US government has raised the matter
00:35 with the Indian government at the senior-most level and it is being treated with utmost
00:39 seriousness.
00:41 This development came after the Ministry of External Affairs or MEA on Wednesday said
00:45 that it received some inputs from the US during a recent discussion on security matters about
00:51 a nexus among organised criminals, terrorists and others.
00:54 However, the statement by MEA spokesperson Arundam Bakshi did not mention where the nexus
01:00 operated.
01:01 India's statement was in response to UK-based newspaper The Financial Times' report that
01:06 claimed the US thwarted a conspiracy to assassinate Khalistani separatist Gurpatwan Singh Pannan
01:12 on American soil.
01:13 A leader of the US-based Six for Justice or SFJ, Pannan holds dual US-Canadian citizenship.
01:20 India has designated Six for Justice as a terrorist outfit.
01:24 In its statement, MEA said, "During the course of recent discussions on the India-US security
01:30 cooperation, the US side shared some inputs pertaining to nexus between organised criminals,
01:36 gunrunners, terrorists and others.
01:39 The inputs are a cause of concern for both countries and they decided to take the necessary
01:43 follow-up action."
01:44 The Financial Times report also claimed that US federal prosecutors had filed a sealed
01:49 indictment against at least one suspect in the alleged assassination attempt against
01:54 Pannan in a New York district court.
01:56 The report comes after Pannan recently asked Six not to fly on Air India planes on and
02:01 after November 19, claiming that there was a threat to their lives.
02:05 He also threatened that Air India would not be allowed to run globally.
