Dramatic footage shows a small plane engulfed in flames after it crashed into a shopping centre.

Fire crews in Plano, Texas, USA rushed to the scene outside Mama's Daughter's Diner on 6509 W Park Boulevard.

The Federal Aviation Association (FAA) confirmed that the single-engine Mooney M20 crashed half a mile away from the nearby Air Park-Dallas Airport.

The FAA were unable to confirm whether the plane was taking off or landing.

Local authorities confirmed that the pilot had died.

Plano Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Daniel Daly said: "Thankfully, the plane did not actually land on or collide with anything.

"We do not know where the aircraft was destined, whether they were going to this landing strip that is really close or Addison.

"We don't really have that information right now. Again, any flight plans or any information is going to be FAA or NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board)."

The footage was captured on November 21.
