00:04 This annual free event will see the switching on of more than 100 bespoke

00:11 jewellery themed Christmas lights.

00:14 It's really an amazing night, I mean what we do is we take the twinkliest part of

00:19 Birmingham anyway and we just make it even more sparkly so we're talking about

00:24 over 100 Christmas lights which are bespoke jewellery themed lights and then

00:30 there are two 30 foot Christmas trees which are draped in Christmas lights.

00:35 There's the iconic jewellery quarter lights, we've got a hanging I heart JQ

00:40 light and then of course there's the truly iconic huge diamond ring which

00:45 everybody loves to have their photographs taken in front of for their

00:48 Instagram selfies and it's just a really special magical night.

00:58 As always the switch on is a really busy event, it kind of signals the start of

01:02 Christmas kind of in the JQ really so yeah I always love switch on night, it's

01:06 my fourth, fifth one and I always look forward to it, it's always good.

01:11 I think we're quite lucky really because the JQ, even though we're in the city

01:14 centre it is a community, it's like a little mini village so kind of even

01:19 though we are in the hustle and bustle of it all there's still that kind of

01:22 personal kind of friendly atmosphere always.

01:45 I'm playing the lazy cow in Jack and the Beanstalk at Birmingham Ifadrome

01:50 this Christmas. I can expect everything I've ever dreamed of, lights, music,

01:57 fabulous characters coming to life on stage. I was invited to come and switch

02:04 on the Christmas lights at the jewellery quarter in Birmingham, a place I must

02:10 admit that I haven't roamed around very frequently so of course I was very

02:15 excited to come along and see what it was all about and I am very excited, I

02:21 call wait, it's always an honour to be asked to come and switch on Christmas

02:25 lights because it's the best time of the year, ain't it?

02:34 The thing I really love about it, I've always thought of the jewellery quarter

02:37 as kind of a village within the city, you know, and there's a village vibe

02:42 about the jewellery quarter and up and down the country these events, they're

02:45 not happening anymore because the councils, you know, we know that around

02:49 here more than anything, the councils don't have the budget for this kind of

02:52 thing so it's really great that the business community steps in and year

02:57 after year JQBID put on this incredible event.
