Students come together to bring joy to teens this Christmas

Students at St Paul's International College have launched the Kids Helping Kids Christmas appeal, after noticing teens were "overlooked" in gift drives.

00:00 So tell me how this initiative came about.

00:03 Through past appeals, we've noticed that there was always a lack of gifts for teenagers.

00:09 There was always the overlooked demographic.

00:11 There was always a surplus of gifts for older people and the young children, but the teenagers

00:15 were always left out.

00:16 So we thought we would fill that gap by doing the Kids Helping Kids appeal at our school.

00:22 And what have you got so far?

00:24 We've got a range of items.

00:25 So we've got snorkels, boogie boards, lollies, cosmetic cases for females, and just other

00:32 miscellaneous gifts for teenagers.

00:35 And how does it feel seeing students in the community get on board with this?

00:41 It's pretty exciting, actually.

00:42 We didn't expect the amount of support that we would get from not only our own school

00:47 community, but of course, everyone else in the greater community.

00:53 Having people, like you said, wanting to contact our school to give gifts, it's a strange feeling

00:59 that we would get this much support and so much backing just for our Kids Helping Kids

01:03 appeal.

01:04 And what do you think this will mean for other teenagers that are struggling?

01:09 I guess it will, for teenagers who haven't had a proper Christmas before, I guess this

01:13 will kind of show that there is still some good in the world and there are people that

01:17 care for them, and there's always a chance to, I guess, see that not everything's as

01:23 bad as it is.

01:24 And something as simple as some lollies or some boogie board could mean a very big thing

01:28 for someone who's not really celebrated a proper Christmas.
