Emmett Shear is the interim CEO of OpenAI, replacing Sam Altman who was fired by the board last week. Shear is the former CEO and co-founder of live-streaming site Twitch, which he founded in 2007 and led until being acquired by Amazon for $1 billion in 2014. After leaving Twitch last year, Shear became a partner at startup accelerator Y Combinator, where Altman was formerly president. As OpenAI's new interim CEO, Shear will be responsible for leading the company, known for its ChatGPT chatbot, and addressing regulatory concerns around its powerful AI technology. Shear took the OpenAI role to help with what he believes is one of the most important companies for advancing AI development.
