The 49ers are clicking on all cylinders, with Brock Purdy throwing for three touchdowns in a win over the Buccaneers. Sports Illustrated hosts Robin Lundberg and Dakota London discuss whether Purdy has silenced his critics from earlier this season.

00:00 Brock Purdy in San Francisco had a perfect game,
00:02 perfect passer rating.
00:03 I think the first 49ers quarterback to do that
00:06 since Joe Montana and Steve Young.
00:08 So has Purdy shut up his critics?
00:10 - No.
00:13 And nor should he have.
00:14 He hasn't done anything yet.
00:16 I feel like the critique is under perfect circumstances,
00:21 Brock is great for that system, great for that team.
00:24 But if the situation isn't perfect,
00:26 which tends to happen in NFL games,
00:29 are you dependable?
00:30 Can you come through every single time?
00:32 Or not every single time, but most of the time
00:34 in circumstances where things aren't scripted.
00:37 And I would say that's still up in the air.
00:39 So for me, it's great.
00:40 Yeah, he had a fantastic game,
00:42 but that game was never in jeopardy.
00:44 Let me see how you play when you play Philly,
00:46 when you're playing against a team and a quarterback
00:49 who I can make the argument are both better.
00:51 So it was just like, show me then,
00:53 then you might be able to shut me up as a critic.
00:55 Until then, much remains to be seen.
00:57 Brock Purdy is easily a top 10 quarterback in the NFL.
01:02 To me, on the very outside edge of top five in the NFL.
01:06 And the only reason he's talked about some lightning rod,
01:09 like some lightning rod, is his draft position.
01:12 You know, if he was drafted in a different spot,
01:14 it wouldn't be this way.
01:15 Because he was the last pick in the draft,
01:17 he's had this like hero story and everyone's like,
01:19 "Oh, yay, Brock Purdy."
01:21 And that leads to a little bit of a backlash.
01:23 And because he was the last pick in the draft,
01:25 you have people who are constantly trying to say,
01:27 "Oh, look, you know, the Cinderella story is over.
01:31 This is really what he is the whole time."
01:33 But the way I put it is,
01:35 Brock Purdy was put into a Maserati,
01:37 but he's driving that thing well,
01:39 and he's getting it from point A to point B efficiently.
01:42 And a lot of times, that's all it takes for a quarterback
01:46 with the right team, the right system,
01:47 and the right structure in the NFL.
01:49 - I can say that, but at the same time,
01:51 show me how you drive that Maserati
01:53 when you gotta stop to change a tire.
01:55 And I feel like in the NFL game,
01:56 there's gonna be times where he has to adjust
01:59 because things that are planned aren't going as well.
02:02 - Well, we gotta see it again.
02:03 I mean, he got hurt in the playoffs last year.
02:05 We're not gonna get that answer
02:07 talking about a regular season win over Tampa.
02:09 (whooshing)
