Pancreatitis _ Acute Pancreatitis _ Chronic Pancreatitis Causes, Symptoms & Treatment in Urdu

Pancreatitis is a medical condition characterized by inflammation of the pancreas, an organ located behind the stomach. This inflammation can either occur suddenly, known as acute pancreatitis, or develop gradually over time, referred to as chronic pancreatitis. Both types can cause severe abdominal pain and potentially life-threatening complications.

Causes:

Acute Pancreatitis: Common causes include gallstones, excessive alcohol consumption, certain medications, high levels of triglycerides in the blood, infections, trauma, and sometimes unknown factors.

Chronic Pancreatitis: Typically, chronic pancreatitis is linked to long-term alcohol abuse, although other causes may include genetic factors, blockages in the pancreatic duct, autoimmune conditions, and repeated acute pancreatitis episodes.

Symptoms:

Acute Pancreatitis: Symptoms may include sudden and severe pain in the upper abdomen that radiates to the back, nausea, vomiting, fever, rapid pulse, and tenderness in the abdomen.

Chronic Pancreatitis: Symptoms can include persistent abdominal pain that may worsen after eating, weight loss, diarrhea, oily or greasy stools, nausea, and vomiting.

Treatment:

Acute Pancreatitis: Treatment often involves hospitalization, fasting to give the pancreas time to heal, intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration, pain management, and addressing the underlying cause. In severe cases, surgery might be necessary to remove damaged tissue or to drain fluid collections.

Chronic Pancreatitis: Management focuses on pain relief, enzyme replacement therapy to aid digestion, dietary modifications (such as a low-fat diet), abstaining from alcohol, and sometimes surgery to relieve blockages or remove damaged parts of the pancreas.

It's crucial to seek medical attention promptly if experiencing symptoms of pancreatitis, as the condition can lead to serious complications like infections, pancreatic necrosis, breathing problems, and kidney failure. Long-term management often requires lifestyle changes and close monitoring by healthcare professionals to prevent further complications and manage symptoms effectively.
