Hulusi Traditional Musical Instrument
The Hulusi is a reed-free single pipe instrument found in Yunnan, China that is related to the Chinese Bawu, the Thai pi Joom, and various other instruments such as the Dja mblai found through Vietnam and Laos. Hulusi is made from one of four bamboo pipes that have small brass or silver reeds inserted flush with the sides of the pipe, and are then surrounded by a gourd or brass (on modern instruments) wind chamber.

Hulusi originally comes from the Dai-zu or Dai (Thai) minority of southern China, but can now be found played by a number of surrounding minority peoples including the Jin Po and Wa. The name Hulusi is a Han term with "hulu" meaning gourd, while the Dai call it katakandao which literally translates as "pi-blown end, surrounded by gourds".
