Transcript
00:00 I'm Robert Lundberg, joined now by Richard Sherman,
00:02 who's here with us on behalf of Amazon
00:04 and their partnership with Rivian
00:06 to bring more electric vehicles to the road
00:08 as part of the company's climate pledge.
00:10 Now, Richard, we see you on Amazon Prime Games all the time,
00:14 and obviously, turnover's a theme
00:17 with the vehicle fleet here,
00:18 trying to turn it over to electric vehicles.
00:20 Turnover's a theme in the NFL with Josh Allen,
00:24 the turnover at offensive coordinator with the Bills.
00:26 How do you assess that situation?
00:28 - Well, they're trying to find answers.
00:30 They're trying to find answers.
00:31 The offense has been on a steady decline
00:34 since Brian Daybole left for the New York Giants,
00:38 and they thought that Ken Dorsey would be the answer.
00:41 Evidently, they are trying to go in a different direction
00:44 with Joe Brady and use his expertise.
00:47 I'm sure that Josh Allen had a conversation
00:49 with head coach Sean McDermott,
00:52 and that's the direction they decided to go.
00:54 - Obviously, Josh Allen is a guy
00:56 who's been at the top of the league.
00:57 Another guy who was picked at the top of the draft,
00:59 who I've seen you going back and forth with people about,
01:02 is Trevor Lawrence.
01:03 Do you think he's not lived up to the building thus far?
01:06 - Well, it's just the stats.
01:08 You look at the numbers,
01:10 and the team has found a way to win ballgames
01:13 and overcome the turnovers and things like that,
01:17 but at the end of the day,
01:19 you were expecting Peyton Manning,
01:21 Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck type of play,
01:26 and it just hasn't been that yet.
01:28 Not that it can't be in the future, it just hasn't been.
01:31 - He was the top pick in that draft.
01:32 The last pick in the next draft was Brock Purdy.
01:34 Who would you take if you had to choose
01:36 a quarterback right now, Lawrence or Purdy?
01:39 - Well, it just depends on the system.
01:40 If I'm in Kyle Shanahan's system,
01:42 Brock Purdy seems tailor-made for it.
01:44 He's a quick decision maker.
01:45 He's a guy that's fearless.
01:47 He's a processor above the shoulders,
01:50 and he's executed well in this offense.
01:53 He's only lost three games in his career.
01:56 So, it just depends on the system.
01:59 I think Trevor Lawrence can probably play in more systems
02:02 and be tailor-made to fit more offenses,
02:04 but in the situation he's in in San Francisco, it's perfect.
02:08 - And speaking of guys who are predicted
02:12 to be highly touted, Caleb Williams is amongst them.
02:14 I saw you on one of the broadcasts recently
02:17 questioning a little bit how he's done
02:18 against the higher level competition.
02:20 Does that put some trepidation in your mind?
02:24 - You just gotta see him be consistent.
02:27 You gotta see him be consistent against high level talent,
02:29 and if you see that, then you'll have less questions.
02:33 The arm talent, the mobility,
02:37 and everything you wanna see as a coordinator,
02:40 as a coach, as a GM, as an owner is there,
02:42 but when you really go into the nuance of things,
02:46 you start to see that he has had some issues.
02:48 - Aaron Rodgers, another guy who's obviously
02:52 in the news a lot.
02:53 I believe you had an Achilles injury in your career.
02:56 What do you make of this accelerated timeline
02:58 that we're hearing about with him?
03:00 - Well, I mean, at the end of the day,
03:03 he's throwing the football, he's doing things
03:05 that haven't been done before in the history of the game,
03:08 but he hasn't made a comeback yet.
03:11 He hasn't played football, he hasn't stepped on the field
03:13 in a uniform and tried to play games, so it's to be seen,
03:17 but what he's done so far is impressive.
03:20 - Will the Jets even be in a position
03:22 for him to try to come back, you believe?
03:25 - I have no idea.
03:26 I have no idea.
03:27 The NFL is a crazy game any given Sunday.
03:29 - Any given Sunday.
03:32 There's been some Sundays since you had previously spoken
03:35 about C.D. Lamb and critiquing him a little bit
03:38 when it comes to lining up across the other number one
03:40 wide receivers in the NFL.
03:42 He said he's the top receiver in the league.
03:44 What do you say about him now?
03:45 - I say he's playing at a elite level
03:49 in the last three games.
03:51 He and Dak Prescott have had an incredible connection
03:53 in the last three games.
03:54 They've targeted him more in the last three games
03:56 than they have in his career, and he's responded well.
03:59 So the way he's played, he's got the right
04:01 to say whatever he wanted.
04:02 He's played at a high level in these past three games,
04:04 and so he deserves to say what he wants to say.
04:07 There's guys that have been more consistent
04:09 on a week in, week out, year in, year out basis,
04:12 but at this point in time, he's playing at a high level,
04:14 so he deserves to say what he wants.
04:17 - Are the Cowboys for real?
04:19 - I don't know.
04:20 They're, what, five and three, six and three.
04:23 They got some tough games to go.
04:26 - How about the other side of the ball where you played?
04:28 Micah Parsons is in that mix.
04:29 Obviously, you've got Watt.
04:30 You've got a lot of guys, Bosa.
04:32 Who do you think is the best defensive player
04:34 in the league right now?
04:35 - That's up for debate.
04:38 There's a lot of guys playing at a high level,
04:41 but it's probably one of the past rushers.
04:43 You can make a case for Fred Warner.
04:45 Bobby Wagner is playing some really good football,
04:47 but I think it's Max Crosby or Miles Garrett
04:50 or Daniel Hunter.
04:52 Those guys are tied for the league
04:54 between Miles and Daniel and Saks.
04:58 So I think those will be the guys that you look for
05:02 in terms of a defensive player of the year right now.
05:05 - Obviously, you're analyzing the game at the moment.
05:07 You have the work you're doing with Amazon,
05:09 but how much thought do you give about
05:11 how you're going to be honored going forward,
05:13 the Hall of Fame and honors such as that?
05:17 - I don't put much thought into it
05:18 because it's out of your control.
05:20 You've done what you could do to affect those things.
05:23 You played the game.
05:25 You put your resume out there and you close the chapter
05:28 and you let the people that decide those things decide it.
05:31 I can't put too much thought into things
05:33 that are out of my control.
05:34 What I try to focus on is the job I have on TNF
05:38 and I enjoy it.
05:40 We have a lot of fun.
05:41 We got the first Black Friday game of the season
05:45 of the NFL in the history of the NFL, really.
05:49 And I think it's going to be really cool.
05:51 There's going to be some deals.
05:52 Everybody gets excited for the Black Friday deals
05:54 and Amazon's going to do it.
05:55 We've got a good game between the Jets
05:57 and the Miami Dolphins.
05:59 Tariq Heal, Tua Tunga-Vailoa.
06:01 It's going to be fun to watch those guys go against Sauce,
06:03 Quinn and Williams, Quincy Williams, DJ Reed,
06:06 Jordan Whitehead.
06:08 It's going to be a really great matchup
06:10 and people are going to, sure,
06:11 I'm sure going to spend a lot of money
06:13 getting some cool deals, getting all the electronics
06:15 and household needs and goods that they need.
06:18 And it's been fun to see the evolution of Amazon
06:21 with these 10,000 delivery vehicles,
06:23 electric delivery vehicles that they have on the road now.
06:26 They're trying to get more sustainable,
06:28 trying to lower their carbon footprint.
06:31 And it's been, it was really fun
06:32 to be a part of that initiative.
06:34 - That's the partnership Amazon has
06:36 with Rivian going on right now and EVs.
06:39 You mentioned spending money.
06:41 I know you do finance advice, right?
06:42 What's your financial advice for people right now,
06:44 you know, in the current climate,
06:46 Black Friday coming up, all that?
06:47 - Get the deals while they're there.
06:52 If you see more than 30% off,
06:54 then that's your shot to go at it.
06:56 Save your money.
06:58 If you're going to invest in something,
06:59 invest in a home as your first real huge investment.
07:03 That would be my advice to anybody,
07:05 but interest rates are insane right now.
07:06 So take your time.
07:08 - Obviously you can get whatever you want on Amazon.
07:11 You can hear Richard Sherman on Amazon.
07:14 You can get new underwear on Amazon.
07:15 You're not like Patrick Mahomes, right?
07:16 You didn't wear the same underwear every game, did you?
07:19 - I didn't wear the same underwear,
07:21 but I did have some superstitions.
07:23 I think everybody has a little bit
07:25 of a superstition like that,
07:26 whether it's a wristband, an armband,
07:27 making sure it's on the same way,
07:29 making sure you put your uniform on in the same order,
07:33 or it's the cleats, or, you know,
07:34 everybody has something.
07:36 It's a playlist.
07:37 It may be the pregame routine.
07:39 So that's just one of his.
07:41 I'm sure, you know, it won't matter
07:42 until somebody, you know, misplaces those red underwear,
07:46 and then, you know, then we'll really see
07:49 how much they matter.
07:50 - Is he the MVP again right now?
07:52 - I think he's definitely in the discussion,
07:56 and he's at the top of it
07:57 because his team is playing good football.
07:59 Obviously they lost to the Denver Broncos,
08:02 and that was a tough loss for him,
08:04 but he's still doing his part,
08:06 and he's at the top of the league.
08:07 I think CJ Stroud is gonna be in that discussion.
08:10 Obviously, Lamar Jackson,
08:11 before this kind of a hiccup of a game he had
08:13 against the Cleveland Browns, was in the discussion.
08:17 Tyreek Hill, Christian McCaffrey, those guys.
08:19 So we'll see how it all shakes out.
08:23 - And we'll hear what you think about it
08:24 as it all shakes out on Amazon Thursday night.
08:27 Obviously the partnership we discussed
08:28 with Rivian, with Amazon's doing.
08:30 Richard, really appreciate the time.
08:33 - Appreciate you having me.
