SussexWorld reporters Jacob Panons and Sam Morton review Amsterdam's famous dishes to let you know what you should eat when you are in the iconic city.

00:00 Hi, my name's Jacob Hammonds. I'm a reporter for Sussex World and today we're in Amsterdam

00:04 because we're reporting on Brighton's away fixture at Ajax in the Europa League.

00:08 And we're going to try some of the local delicacies. So here I've got some herring,

00:11 herring, pickles and a bit of onion there in the hot dog bun.

00:15 This costs €3.50, so relatively cheap. Perfect setting. Let's give it a go.

00:19 Lovely. Yeah, I had this last time I was in Amsterdam. Absolutely loved it.

00:26 You can see in there it's pretty much just raw. It's cold but it's lovely. It's not too fishy,

00:31 it's got a great flavour to it. It goes great with the pickles. I would say the best pickles

00:35 in Holland. And yeah, it's brilliant. If you're in Amsterdam, Brighton fans, make sure you give

00:38 this a try. Now I've got some chips from Manneken Pis. I hope I pronounced that right. Apparently

00:44 it's the famous chip shop here. As you can see, they're a bit different. They're kind of like

00:47 chip shop chips from back home but give them a go. I've got some curry sauce on them but

00:51 I'll give them a try. They're nice, you know, well seasoned. And the thing is, I think whenever

00:59 you get a chip it's always going to be alright. It's a good chip but I mean, not necessarily an

01:03 amazing chip. I'd probably give it like a 7.5 out of 10 but I think with chips, you know,

01:06 there's only a certain level it can get to but, nah yeah, pretty decent. So we are outside Frinds

01:12 Harding Handling, I don't know if I pronounced that right, and we've got some, how do you

01:15 pronounce this, Mikael? Kibbeling. Kibbeling. It's like fried fish, so it's kind of like fish and

01:19 chips but I've had it here before and it's a lot better than fish chips, I have to admit.

01:23 We had some herring as well on the plate, it's beautiful, so we'll give this a go.

01:26 It's got some seasoning on it as you can kind of see there.

01:29 It's so soft, yeah, so nice. That seasoning on top is just beautiful. Yeah, definitely check

01:38 this one out if you're in the town. Right, just down the road from where we tried the herring,

01:42 we're now outside Van Stapelman's which is famous for its cookies. I've tried them once before and

01:47 they were incredible so I'm going to try them again and see if they're just as good.

01:50 Amazing, honestly the best cookie you can ever taste anywhere in my opinion. It is amazing,

02:02 so soft, so tender, so chocolatey. 10 out of 10 for me and the number one place to go for

02:08 desserts or cookies in Amsterdam.

02:11 So we are here outside Broody's, the famous street bottle place in De Pijp, a famous market

02:27 called Albert Cuyp Market. So I've got regular and Sam's got the chocolate. These are made fresh

02:33 and yeah, let's give these a go.

02:41 Really delicious, really chocolatey on my one. Not too heavy, really light and easy to eat.

02:53 Lots of flavour and a really nice dessert or a snack during the day if you're in Amsterdam.

03:00 So yeah I'd say 8 out of 10. Yeah definitely this is really good. This is different to what you get

03:04 in the supermarkets. It's fresher, it's warm, sort of a little bit more brittle but the caramel,

03:08 because it's warm it's more gooey so it's not too chewy. It's lovely, it's nice and fresh.

03:13 Honestly it's perfect. I wish they did these at coffee shops in the UK. It would be a lot better

03:17 than some of the stuff we get in there. All right so we've got some poffridges now which are mini

03:23 pancakes and we've got a bit of butter under there and some, I think it's caster sugar on top.

03:27 So let's give this a go.

03:36 Yeah those are brilliant. They're like pancakes but because they're quite small they're quite

03:39 creamy in the middle and then yeah sweet on the outside. It's almost perfect. I'm not a huge

03:44 pancake fan but they're almost like a cross between a pancake and a crepe but because they're so small

03:49 they have a great consistency. It's really crispy and the interior on the inside. Yeah absolutely

03:53 agree. I do love a pancake myself especially obviously a pancake cake and these are cooked

03:57 to perfection. Really really nice, really light and easy to eat and the sugar just really has

04:03 cooked well. So yeah really a lovely little treat to have in Amsterdam if you're looking for some

04:07 pancakes. Yeah another 8 out of 10 for me. Yeah yeah I think I have to give it yeah 8.5 out of 10.
