Vicente Erraez's Fatal Crash @ Santo Domingo 2021

Organized by Club Tigrillos Reencuentro Automovilístico de Rally Cross, the event was held on Sunday, 10 October 2021 at the Pista Milton Torres in the town of Santo Domingo, province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, northern Ecuador. However, it was marred by a fatal accident which took the life of one of the spectators.

About 16h40, during a race for off-road vehicles, a black and orange Polaris RZR went out of control on the approach to a fast right-hand bend and crashed into a crowd, before rolling over. As a result of the accident, a 66-year-old man called Vicente Erraez was transported to Hospital Gustavo Domínguez where he was declared dead.

The driver involved in the fatal crash, whose name was not released, escaped serious injury. Two other men were also injured but their names and state of injuries were not disclosed at the time.

A motocross and rally cross enthusiast, Vicente Erraez was spectating the race sitting on the back of a pick-up, along with his son, Vicente Erraez Briones. Later, the young man explained that when the racing vehicle left the track and plunged over them, he managed to throw himself to the side, but his father did not react in the same way and was struck.
