Biden Administration Urges Appeals Court to Uphold Sweeping Asylum Restrictions, Citing Border Disruption
  • 6 months ago
The Biden administration is urging an appeals court in Pasadena, California to overturn a July ruling and allow new sweeping asylum restrictions to remain in place, warning that halting these restrictions could cause major disruption at the US-Mexico border. The new restrictions make it much harder to qualify for asylum if migrants didn't first apply online or travel through another country like Mexico without seeking protection there. These restrictions have remained in effect during the appeal process. Crossings had dropped after the restrictions took effect but apprehensions have risen again, topping 2 million last year for the second year in a row.
