Pentagon Ramps up Space Competition with China with $1.3B Contracts for Communication Satellites

The Pentagon's Space Development Agency has awarded contracts worth $1.3 billion to York Space and Northrop Grumman to build communication satellites for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture network. The satellites will provide encrypted communications and are scheduled to launch in 2026. The Pentagon is increasing its space efforts to compete with China, with the Space Force receiving a budget increase of $30 billion for fiscal 2024.
