00:31 of over 600 kilometers.

00:46 Proton won two awards including the Local Car of the Year award for the Proton X90 flagship.

00:51 It is the national automaker's first mild hybrid vehicle and delivers great value for

00:56 those seeking a large, roomy and well-appointed three-row SUV.

01:15 Also winning two awards was Toyota, which included the Asian Car of the Year award for

01:20 the Toyota Vios G with its stylish fastback-like design along with superior levels of refinement,

01:27 driving dynamics and safety features.

01:45 In his speech, guest of honour, Transport Ministry Under-Secretary of Procurement and

01:49 Finance Division, Guna Arulalan David said the country's automotive industry has grown

01:54 from strength to strength.

01:56 Meanwhile, Star Media Group CEO Alex Yao said the automobile industry is undergoing a transition

02:14 as more and more companies are giving serious thought to introducing vehicles that are environmentally

02:19 friendly.

02:21 Innovation and technology remain as two of the core pillars in the automotive industry

02:27 as it constantly pushes boundaries in the advancement in design, performance, efficiency,

02:35 safety and sustainability.

02:37 That said, the emergence of this disruptive technology trend has created new pathways

02:45 of opportunity for the automotive industry to venture into green technology.

02:51 This is also in line with the shift in consumer preferences for more sustainable options in

02:58 their vehicle of choice.

03:01 The awards, organised by SMG and Starcar Sifu, honour outstanding cars for advancements and

03:06 innovations in areas such as design, features and green technology.

03:11 Cars are judged in areas such as safety, performance, comfort, handling, styling, value for money

03:18 proposition as well as their individual 'wow' factor.

03:22 In total, 54 cars competed in 30 categories at this year's awards.

03:27 To be shortlisted for the awards, the vehicles must have been launched in Malaysia from October

03:32 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.
