Cruise Halts Driverless Vehicle Fleet Following Hit and Run With Pedestrian
  • 6 months ago
Cruise has paused operations of its driverless vehicle fleet across the US after the California DMV suspended testing and deployment permits for autonomous vehicles amid an ongoing investigation. In October, a collision occurred where a human driver hit a pedestrian, launching them into the path of an adjacent Cruise robotaxi, which wasn't able to stop in time and ran the person over while they were on the ground. Both the California DMV and NHTSA have launched investigations into safety issues with Cruise's autonomous vehicles after other incidents in recent months. Cruise says the pause is to be extra vigilant on safety and rebuild public trust and that supervised testing will continue for now.
