00:46 When we read in her book, The Woman in Me, Britney shared that she thought of the kiss

00:51 idea just before performing with Madonna and Christina Aguilera.

00:56 It was something that popped up in her brain.

01:04 So what she aimed to do was to top when she revealed a sparkling nude suit during her

01:12 2000 VMAs performance when she was performing Oops I Did It Again.

01:17 So she was like, what can I do to top it?

01:19 Oh, a kiss.

01:21 And this is how Britney Spears explains it in her book.

01:32 When I pulled off a suit to reveal a sparkly outfit, I thought to myself, I want a moment

01:38 like that again this year.

01:40 With the kiss, should I just go for it?

01:50 And of course, Britney clearly didn't hold back.

01:53 She went for it.

01:54 She and Christina Aguilera both kissed Madonna during their performance of Like A Virgin.

02:05 And it was a moment that remains iconic in music award show history.

02:15 In her memoir, Britney also recognized how the kiss became a timeless pop culture moment

03:54 It was an important lesson for me, one that would take a long time for me to absorb.

04:01 And so she got power.

04:03 She was the center of attention because she made that the condition of her showing up

04:08 everywhere.

04:10 She made that life for herself.

04:11 I hoped I could find ways to do that while preserving the parts of my nice girl identity

04:17 that I wanted to keep.

04:19 And there you have it.
